The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) is the voluntary American National Standard for the construction of green homes. The NGBS was approved by the American National Standards Institute in 2009. Just as there is an American National Standard for building aluminum boats, the NGBS is the standard for the construction of green homes in Pennsylvania and beyond.
To attain NGBS certification for your home, the builder submitted plans and documentation to a third-party green home verifier. The verifier inspected the plans, performed two on-site inspections, and examined paperwork and engineering documents to assure that green building features were designed, installed, and executed as they were intended to be.
